I come from Egremont and being a good few years younger than the boys, have only vague memories of the band, but they are ones which had great influence on me. I remember seeing them play at my school, Wyndham, when I was just getting into music, and the sheer impact of hearing a full on band was immense. Their subsequent success only proved to concrete my growing obession with music, particularly the guitar, and my ressolve that if they can come from Egremont and make it, so can I! I think Frankie's approach to the guitar was possibly the bands strongest influence on me, as although I love songs like Calling all the heros, and Still too young to remember, I sometimes found them over complex and indirect. However using the guitar to create a backdrop for a song rather than just for the sake of playing, was an approach which influenced me, and loads of other diverse musicians I meet.
These days, I live in Cardiff and play in a band called scuba who are poised to be slightly famous fairly soon(!) Although our music is a world away from It Bites, the effect the only other famous people to come from Egremont had on me still remains. I still think back to when my school band followed in It Bites footsteps, and played in the Wyndham school concert hall, and how that excitement still grabs me just before playing.
