Review of Demo 1997 After just a couple of listens I love the new tunes, and some have hit potential written all over them.
First off, the new band gives FD's songs a fresh live sound, a bit looser, and also allows him some of the freedom he displays live (but may have been unable to capture on record until now).SUNFLOWERS is my favorite right now. Its got some strange and wonderful chord changes, almost remniscent of the Eat Me In St. Louis stuff!!!!
BLINDE BY THE MEMORY is another atmospheric balld in the spirit of JACKYL IN YOUR MIND or FEEL LIKE KISSING YOU.
Some of you may remember MY OWN REALITY from some of FDs live dates. Here it sounds catchy as hell, has a stunning high end guitar track that cuts right through you. His harmonies on the chorus are quite tasty too.
I-95 a longer jam oriented track gives Francis the room to develop some real far out guitar ideas and riffs. Nothing here as epic as ONCE AROUND THE WORLD or as abstract as STARING AT THE WHITEWASH of course, but in my not so humble opinion, it just as good as anything off of WELCOME TO THE WILD COUNTRY!!!
IF ONLY JOHN BECK WAS INVITED TO PLAY ON A FEW TRACKS, I THINK WE' D GET SOMETHING REALLY HEAVY!!!!!
